(763 views) | | | Tasted by chapel hill wino on 5/6/2007 & rated 85 points: weak and acidic, traces of creamy cherry, strawberry on the nose, creamy raspberry short acidic finish. Overall did not particularly enjoy. (1113 views) | | | Tasted by mulligan452002 on 4/12/2007: The cork is in good condition, though it left some specks in the wine. No time to decant or breathe. The colour is typical Pinot Noir: when the glass is only a quarter full, it is not as deep or dark as a Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah or Merlot, at least in my judgment. The wine is translucent. The aroma is is somewhat weak, at least at first. The flavour is reasonably good, but not very good. There is little to no pepperiness. There is some tartness, which is not unpleasant. There is a detectable Burgundian flavour, though not as distinctive as possible. On second tasting, the flavour is slightly better. In my opinion, this wine would be better in a half bottle (less to consume). On third tasting, it is most compatible with dark European chocolate. Low good. Abv 13%. Per www.louislatour.com: Deep ruby in colour, this wine from the northern Côte d'Or has a clean nose of woodspice and cedarwood. In the mouth the red fruit flavours are at the fore with spice showing itself again along with some gamey flavours. Can be put down for a couple of years. Tasted 02/05. Traditional open vat fermentation followed by 18 months ageing in oak. Marsannay wines are sturdy and robust due to rich iron-based soil. They have a bouquet of red fruit and a a gamey character and tannic appeal. Marsannay received its Appellation Contrôlée in 1987. 2003 had elevated temperatures and an early harvest. The first grapes were harvested in the south of Burgundy on August 13th. The yield at 1.2 million hectolitres was 20% below normal. Source : Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne. Some mineral, but no sense of body and the acidity overpowered the flavors (or lack thereof). Out of whack. Don't think it is too young. Either not my style, or a so-so expample of a varietal I usually love. (1514 views) | | | Tasted by duchamp on 7/1/2006 & rated 87 points: Simple nose dominated by smoke, tar and red fruit, simple strawberry, creamy fruit on the palate, not as burgundian as I would have liked, short finish (1513 views) | | | Tasted by jdunnuck on 5/3/2006 & rated 85 points: Really nice with ripe cherry and strawberry fruit and subtle wood notes. Medium bodied with a nice finish. Simple but really enjoyable. (1907 views) | | | Tasted by Dixie on 3/12/2006: Had with Dave and Michelle over. Was very good. Buy some more if possible. (1848 views) | | | Tasted by amoses on 1/9/2006 & rated 89 points: First night: Asphalt and mineral mixed with red fruit aromas; medium body, niicely acidic attack and soft lingering tannic finish; slight licorice in the bright and concentrated cherry and plum flavors. The acidity lends itself to food rather than sipping; but this is a complex and interesting wine even on its own.Second night: slighly more earthy aromas, maintains good fruit and mouthfeel. Pretty impressive for the price. B+. (1797 views) | | | Tasted by ShawnS on 1/7/2006 & rated 85 points: Very young had about 20 min of air, needed more. A little fruit, pepper nice long finish. About red wine
Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne)
Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.
