Last bottle of this wine...a wow what an experience. This just has an amazing nose with hints of stems and tart cherry/cranberry. Just lovely on the palate. Simply gorgeous and a real treat to share with friends.

Rieslings, Rhones, Richebourg, and more at The Bristol (The Bristol, Chicago): Much more delicate and finessed than any of the younger Gonons I've had, which come across a touch brawny and rustic in contrast to this. The nose and palate are an array of black olives, red berried fruit, a touch of stemmy funk, and more savoury meaty and leathery elements, and there's bright acidity beneath and a lightness of touch that makes each glass disappear too quickly. Great wine.

Salil does Chicago; 4/16/2015-4/19/2015 (Chicago, IL): This bottle (of the same provenance as my other note from last year -- thanks Sennma), showed a much lighter and defter touch than its sibling. Tons of stems, but elegance beyond belief. Floral and light, but still chewy tannins. Red fruited and airy but with a racy vein of cranberry-tinged acidity. My wine of the night.

HDH Auction (Restaurant Tru, Chicago, IL): Damn, this is old school - really stemmy, green and herbal - very raw and meaty with blood, saline and tartness. Palate shows tart cherry and stems. Really really stony as well. Not a wine to simply enjoy without thinking.

Took to HDH auction. Doesn't show that its a 1989. Has a nice stemmy/fresh taste that I like. Very elegant and a nice showing.
