Northern Rhone night: Rather tertiary with obvious soy and mushroom notes. Rather flat compared to my last bottle which had an incredible intensity and acidity.

Northern Rhones at Min Jiang: Brought for a friend. Had a regal, floral violet nose. An incredibly elegant expression of Syrah without being thin, lovely acidity to back up the slightly receding fruit. Effortlessly elegant and beautifully balanced. At peak.

Northern Rhone theme dinner at Min Jiang Goodwood. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl 1855. Appearance fine sediment, deep intensity, ruby colour with garnet rim. Thin legs. Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of sous bois forest floor earth, feral animal meat that falls off with air,, nice dark fruits. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), smooth high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensirty, with flavours of sweet tea leaves, savoury forest floor earth, sweet dark red plums. Big long flavourful finish. Very good quality. Great example of how you do not need lots of ripe big alcohol to achieve big flavour. Very well put together and drinking at peak already.

Friday night with burgers and the Witcher; 7/7/2023-7/8/2023 (At home in leafy West London): Colour - garnet, just the faintest hint of bricking. On the nose, dark fruits and a certain meaty character. On the palate - some breadth to it, black fruits, and a real beefiness to it. Not your supermarket topside joint - a dry aged rib that is at just the pefect level of gaminess. I was expecting K to find this a bit too much, but she really enjoyed it.

Same bottle as Derek. Initially a bit tight and closed. Good lift but well integrated. Quite elegant on the palate. Medium length. 92
