Decanted on opening and consumed over 2 hours or so. Very dark, inky black color at the core, with only a faint purple on the rim. Nose was multilayered but altogether on the lighter end of the spectrum. Aromas of berries and spice with a persistent vanilla note re-asserting itself periodically. Also had a savory dimension, like braised meats or ketchup. Very surprising mouthfeel- the tannins were extremely mellow and smooth. Given this wine's youth and the reputation of the vintage, I expected a monster. Instead, everything was seamlessly integrated, making for pleasurable drinking now but probably not indicative of long aging potential. The fruits never really fully asserted themselves, making this much more of a sleek, lithe style wine than its voluptuous Napa neighbors.
