  • Consistently punching above its weight class. After all these years, black and red fruit notes are still present and accompanied by some lovely earthy notes. Always a good bet

  • PNP, I have over the years tasted my share Of this underrated rather commercial Rioja Reserva from Riscal and am never disappointed.
This bottle once again shows how you can marry fruit and old world flavors into a world class wine expressing leather, truffles, earth with red fruit such as cherry, pomegranate, cranberry balance nicely by wood notes. These are prolifically available and of a decent value. Paired well with leg of Lamb. Salud!

  • And here I am, locked up but at least opening bottles of 2005 Rioja. This is my second one.
    Good quality cork. Perfect closure.
Delicious aromas of flesh dipped in sweet spices. The characteristic of this extraordinary vintage although open: the wood will no longer bother anymore. It also has notes of black truffles, tobacco box, leather and red licorice along with sour currants. Elegant and complete. Pure complexity. On the palate it has acidity, depth, a sweet density, good persistence, and a delicious aftertaste. Still my kind of wine. It will be open for another ten years, minimum.
In short, another bottle that marginalizes, as in "Brian's Life", the many followers of coconut (shoe) and dill (canteen). Poor sunny people. Following false sensations that seem real. By the way, just 88 points is simply ridiculous.

  • Magnum - 2hr double decant. Still very tight and tannic. Plenty of oak but nicely integrated. Needs at least another 8 or 9 years, in this format anyway. Has potential to be really good,

  • Very reliable. Year after year, bottle after bottle this stuff is always consistent. Medium weight, with notes of cedar and earth, no tannins left really, fruit and spice. Nice solid 13 year old Rioja. Lacks much depth but that didn't stop everyone from finishing the bottle quickly!

(Marques De Riscal Rioja Reserva) COLOR-dark; NOSE-sour raspberry; twigs and a little bit of plum; PALATE-good solid fruit; I highly recommend people trying this as it gives a good sense of what Old World Rioja taste like a really nice price point; has great black tea leaf component that I like; there's some plum action on the finish; also a red pepper component that I kind of like; medium bodied; solid; one of the better Reserva's from Rioja that I've had; lacks some depth and range of flavors, but really solid and really well made; a nice beef jerky component on the finish as well; good old fashioned Rioja; would go well with cheese's and pizza; good Tuesday night wine; JM-90; GV-87
