4thWednesdays - Wines of Northern Italy - March 2018 (Texas Wine School, Houston, Tx): A: Pale ruby with a creamy mousse N: Suhweet Cherry, mint, pomegranate and some cough drops. This is youthful. P: Aromas confirmed. Dry, medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol, medium intensity, medium finish and body. C: Balanced with some length and intensity. Very fresh considering the age. Its very good quality wine, just not to my tastes. I would drink up. Its amazing that its still so youthful l but even Dorian Grey met a sticky end eventually.

I am just in awe of how fresh and smooth this Metodo Classico Lambrusco tastes after eight years! It is still bright pale ruby, with just a hint of garnet. The mousse is thick and pink and creamy. The nose is clean, fresh with candied cherry, dried cranberries, orange zest, dried herbs, earth. The palate is dry, consistent with the nose, with medium acidity, medium alcohol (13%), light tannins and a pleasant phenolic bitterness on the finish. This is really a beautiful wine which is great by itself but also pairs nicely with a wide range of dishes. It is particularly suited as a foil to rich and fatty salumi, Parmigiano and creamy sauces. Worth seeking out.

Color is still a beautiful ruby/cranberry red. Slight bricking. Nose has lost the funk from some of the earlier bottles. Now it has wet earth, watermelon rind, cranberries and almost a chocolate or cocoa note. Palate is creamier than expected. Fruit has faded into the background a but but not in a bad way. Wet earth/clay along with cranberry and strawberry. Finish stretches out nicely. I'm no Lambrucso expert and especially no VINTAGE lambrusco expert but this is some pretty nice and interesting stuff.

Sensational! So much fun to drink lambrusco from a great producer with some age. The fruit was still pure and crisp.
