Just a tiny touch of pink in the golden yellow. Great minerality, very dry, lots of structure. Terrific wine. Drink now. (399 views) | | | Tasted by Vino Me on 1/3/2007 & rated 87 points: 2nd time I have had this wine. Less enthralled this time around. Petrol and lemon notes. 87 points. (1838 views) | | | Tasted by trankin on 12/31/2006 & rated 88 points: New Year's Eve 2006/7 (my place): Enjoyed this a touch better than the last time I had it - none of the funky notes. Fairly straightforward, but quite enjoyable. (1965 views) | | | Tasted by flwino on 11/13/2006 & rated 91 points: Great wine. Opened without chilling. Riedel Bord glasses. Nice amber colo, and clear. Essesence of pears and mild fruit. Nice and light, verypleasureable.
Will buy more AND SOON!!! (1828 views) | | | Tasted by wineismylife on 11/11/2006 & rated 90 points: DAWGS Offline - November 2006 (su vino's home in Southlake, TX): WIML90,WA92,NOWS
Tasted November 11, 2006 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Rot Wein glass. Yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of whetstone, acacia flowers, peaches and pears. Flavors of minerals, pears and light peach notes. Medium acidity tending a little towards the light side at this point, same with the body. Just half a step off of my last tasting of this wine. I’d go ahead and drink now. (2220 views) | | | Tasted by win on 11/11/2006 & rated 90 points: DAWG OL QPR (Southlake, Texas): This wine had some phenominal aromas--very floral fragrant with good backbone of fruit smells as well. However, this was followed by a very light bodied wine--very intriguing. (2146 views) | | | Tasted by thelostverse on 8/22/2006 & rated 93 points: Similar notes. More buttery lemon noted in this bottle. (2157 views) | | | Tasted by Anonymous on 7/20/2006: Golden yellow hue. Apple, orange peel nose. Full tastes of apple and pineapple with a lush mouthfeel and a long rich finish. (2127 views) | | | Tasted by trankin on 7/6/2006 & rated 88 points: Scarsdale Spain Offline (Meritage Restaurant in Scarsdale): Clean, crisp, tart, fairly full-bodied. Grapefruit and mandarin orange, with a tiny touch of sourness. Tasted June 10, 2006 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Rot Wein glass. Visited several times over the evening. Dark yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose and palate are basically identical to the last tasting on June 1, 2006: aromas of pineapple, apple and pear coupled with flavors of pears, yellow apples, minerals and butterscotch. Fresh acidity, good overall balance with a medium finish. Ratings same as last time as well. Based on the retail price I paid of $22.99 I’d say the value here is highly recommended. Tasted June 1, 2006 at home. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Weiss Wein glass. Dark yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of pineapple, apple, pear, almonds and maybe a little brioche. Flavors of pears, yellow apples, minerals and butterscotch. Fresh acidity, good overall balance with a medium finish. I’m upgrading my previous two ratings of 90 to 91 pts. Best bottle of the batch so far. Based on the retail price I paid of $22.99 I’d say the value here is highly recommended. (2540 views) | | | Tasted by Vino Me on 5/22/2006 & rated 90 points: Lost Verse brought this to dinner on Saturday for the CWM "obscure white grape" offline. This wine is made from Grenache Blanc. The most pleasant surprise of the night for me. When I first tried this wine is was too cold and not showing much. It came off as lean at first. However, as it warmed in the glass it really opened. Bone dry with notes of lemon curd and a stony minerality. Very clean and crisp finish. Impressive. 90-91 points. (2723 views) | | | Tasted by thelostverse on 5/20/2006 & rated 92 points: I brought this bottle to a CWM offline at Spring Garden in Naperville. This is still showing well and shows no signs of decline. (2615 views) | | | Tasted by thelostverse on 4/11/2006 & rated 92 points: Similar notes, with just a touch less intensity on the finish in this bottle. Tasted April 6, 2006 at home. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Weiss Wein glass. Yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Same nose and aromas as last time. Nose of apples, spring flowers and pear. Flavors of pears, mineral and a touch of honey. I’d like to say this is just a smidge better than last time but it does not warrant an uptick is the score. This was our third of six bottles in the past two weeks and none have been exactly like the others, including one mildly corked bottle in the mix. Concerning. Wine was slightly corked so no review or rating. Tasted March 25, 2006 at an offline so brief comments only. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Weiss Wein glass. Yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of apples, spring flowers and pear. Flavors of pears, mineral and a touch of honey. Interesting wine but I’m not quite sure how to rate this one. I’d like to revisit soon and reassess in a better environment. Call it 90 points at the moment with a drink “now” recommendation. Value is agreeable. (2999 views) | | | Tasted by Anonymous on 3/19/2006 & rated 89 points: Exotic, rhoney nose with tropical fruits, melon, and peach-type notes. Viscous palate with a mineral backbone and persistent flavors with juicy acidity. Clean, crisp flavors. Wears its alcohol a bit too transparently, but an enjoyable wine that offers quite a bit for the price. (3092 views) | | | Tasted by thelostverse on 2/4/2006 & rated 93 points: Had this again tonight with similar notes. Lots of floral and honey and a long finish. I had this with a friend that "does not like white wine", and he had to retract that statement after dinner. (2947 views) | | | Tasted by thelostverse on 2/3/2006 & rated 93 points: This was absolutely fabulous. Opened and poured. This was a beautiful golden color - the term liquid gold came to mind. The nose is dusty rose, citrus and honey. The palate is perfectly balanced and full of honey, citrus (lemon mostly) and a spice that we could not identify, but liked. The finish lasts on and on. I need to get more of this. (3043 views) | | | Tasted by shemmy on 9/24/2005 & rated 90 points: Wild earthy color on this wine. Medium-bodied, no wood, nice acidity. Jen spots some honey. Very nice. Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net
Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos and Amontillados. But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
About 100 kilometers from Barcelona, Priorat originated as a distinct recognized wine region in 1932, and was approved in 1954.
