Dense and powerful, but lacking elegance and balance. Overmatured cassis notes, ink, tar, herbal and phenolic aromas. Nothing for faint-hearted consumers and requiring a solid pairing.

Against other vinages of this wine, this dense and powerful 2007 lacks elegance and balance, bulldozing you with overmature cassis, ink, tar, herbal and phenolic aromas. Nothing for faint-hearted consumers and requiring a solid pairing, such as game or our chili con carne, which worked reasonably well.

High level acidic Syrah with fantastic markers and much going on. Unfortunately not yet together and far too young for our tastes.
Slow-ox 12 hrs, dbl decanted then brought to the restaurant. Dark red with early bricking. Nose is rich, even 1m away. Apples, water cress, industrial rubber, well grilled meat and sun-kissed fruit. Peppery herbs, smoked meat, tar and some browning fruits. Per os: Even if the nose hints at a jammy experience, it is nowhere to be found. A tight wine with a little more acids than necessary. May integrate, may not. Tannins are M+ and quite refined. The fruit is still tight, emitting only some small, restrained hints of what's to come.
Even after one btl, I still can't make up my mind if this is New World or traddo in style, whether this is unbalanced and mature or whether this is still just a baby and having a fabulous future ahead. I want to believe that this is a wine with a brilliant future ahead. Especially since I remember some particularily unbalanced Hermitage wines of yore, that fabulously hit their stride later on... So, this one is particularily blurry in my crystal ball. Therefore I predict 85-95p in 2024. Score is for today's performance, marrying especially the sashimi plate with citrus vinaigrette and special clams as well as the outstanding veal that was served for our special occasion. Wife: 90p. Lunch at absolutely amazing ** L'Effervescence (Tokyo).
