Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): I had higher expectations for this, but I think the bottle just wasn't in too great a shape. A bit dirty and almost slightly brothy. Earthy and leathery and rustic, the way Clape tends to be. Reminds me a little bit of Cordier-era Bordeaux in that dirty/funky way.

en magnum - opened and not decanted just 1 hour before serving. This was sooooo beautiful, sooooo fragrant, with lots of bacon fat, smoke, grilled meats, some leather, and plums. Suddenly there was a whiff of dusty chalk but thankfully this faded. Plateaued about 1½ hours after opening, but remained lovely with lots of eucalyptus. Some 3 hours after opening there were some black olives, with less sweet fruit and more smoke.

Most Splendid Game Dinner: Such a treat. Starts of with just a hint of - farmyard after the cattle have come in. Low level brett perhaps - just enough to keep it interesting. Really thrilling core to the wine, but fully in balance - the horses are only pulling as hard as you want them to.

Gareth's glorious game dinner (Canary Wharf): A real Cornas caricature: blood and iron, coffee bean, even smelling of shit at times. Good acidity, and plenty of zip and complexity, but not necessarily delicious (perhaps the more hedonistic Chave overshadowed it).
