  • Simply delicous blend. Not complex, but not supposed to be. Perfect food wine and great QPR

  • Brief update: the tannins have settled considerably -- not as chalky as my last tasting -- and at this point the ripe fruitiness and oak is in the fore. A bit simple at the moment, but potential for more interest as the fruit calms down. Still a tasty wine for the price. B.

Tasted January 13, 2007 at home. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Rot Wein glass. Light garnet to garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of cocoa powder, dark cherries, chocolate covered raisinettes and a bit of potpourri. At first whiff PURPLE noted she thought it smelled like a Santa Lucia Highlands wine which I found interesting. Flavors of black cherries, mocha, raspberries and touch of “oakiness”. Light to medium acidity, medium tannins and medium body. Shortess finish but not bad. Drink over the short term. Based on our local retail price of $14.44 a bottle I’d say the value here is acceptable, maybe a smidge better.
I found the nose to be a little ripe and rustic. This is a fun wine to try out, but I don't think it is a well crafted wine. A little muddled and the oak masked the fruit and I found it a little rustic at times.-cld

  • Staff Favorites (Farpointe Cellar): This wine had a lot going on. The nose had a very candied fruit aroma. It also had lots of black currant, plum and cherry. Underneath was some vanilla, and just the smallest hint of blueberry. The palate was smooth, with loads of black fruit, oak, and pepper. The tannins were very firm, and the finish lasted a long time.

  • Good wine, but pretty damn high on the alcohol (15.5%!)...and the tannins took a little while to settle down after it was opened.... Went well with hamburgers and mexican rice...
I would definitely buy it again as I consider it a pretty good value at $15.
