Community Tasting Notes (average 88.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 17 notes)

Tasted by JBVino on 10/18/2009: bigger than I remembered...fun spicy character, good size and enough fruit and secondary flavors...solid (212 views)

Tasted by MrSnooty on 8/18/2007 & rated 89 points: Very good. See my previous notes. I think this bottle was even better than the previous one - it's a little more mellow and smooth. Too bad this was my last bottle!
Cork closure. (1273 views)
Tasted by thebonnydooner on 1/10/2007 & rated 88 points: Very nice. Decanted. Most interesting blend of merlot, cabernet, syrah and nero d'avola - equal portions of each per the label. Deep cherry plum colour. Interesting nose, at first all fruit - cherry and plum, then morphed into more herbal, garrigue Rhone like notes, maybe a whiff of volatile acidity. Palate was sweet and juicy with loads of cherry, plum acidity, almost sweet blackberry fruit on the finish. Really juicy, sweet finish. This is a very good food wine. Paired up well with an unusual veal and pasta dish with a garlic, lemon, capers and anchovies' sauce. No need to keep, will drink my others sooner than later. (1910 views)
Tasted by MrSnooty on 11/17/2006 & rated 87 points: Very nice full-bodied, fruity red wine with balanced tannins and acidity. Ripe black fruit flavour dominates, but the fairly potent tannins prevent this from being over-sweet. A nice long finish and velvety mouth-feel. (2439 views)
Tasted by jbposell on 10/14/2006: Not as good as previous bottles, thinner and more acidic... (2256 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 8/17/2006 & rated 90 points: At Frasca --- $36 on the list.

An enjoyable, loaded and multi-faceted nose of black fruit, red fruit, licorice, spice and tar. The palate follows through with multiple flavors. Concentrated fruit with brancing acidity and biting tannins to counterpoint. 20 to 30 second finish. A nicely made wine for the price. If I had to pick on it, I'd say it was slightly disjointed with so many dimensions that just didn't quite flow together. But, all-in-all, a very good QPR and fun wine. (2639 views)

Tasted June 9, 2006 at home. 14% alcohol. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Dark garnet color in the glass, slightly cloudy throughout. Nose of violets, lavender, mixed dark fruits, mocha and perhaps a touch of smoke. Flavors of plums, red berries and a little cocoa. Firm to slightly drying tannins, somewhat muted acidity. 14% alcohol shows, coming across a little on the hot side. This was my last bottle of this wine but I’m thinking it could probably go another 2-3 years although I doubt any significant improvement. Based on my purchase price of $15.89 I’d say the value here is recommended. (2592 views)
Tasted by GlenD on 3/11/2006 & rated 87 points: Good everday Italian. Good acidity, and a mix of red and purple fruit. Better with some air. Held up well (better?) the next day. Worth the extra $5 over my typical $10 daily Italian drinkers. The 02's are probably drinking better right now. (2959 views)
Tasted by ScottG on 2/26/2006 & rated 84 points: Blah. Below average bottle- very muted. Didn't detect TCA, but wouldn't surprise me if this was very lightly spoiled. (3158 views)
Tasted by goofy Yno on 12/21/2005 & rated 86 points: Drank from resturant wine list. very different from the 02's I know and love. a nose of cherry 7-up. light to medium bodied with a high toned acid background. red fruits and very light tannins. where was my deep smoky dark fruited friend???? I'm not sure if this was an off bottle or the 03 vintage. I sure hope the former. (3367 views)
Tasted by jbposell on 12/18/2005: Yet another tasty bottle! Why did I only buy a half case??? Straight out of the bottle, the tannins are in your face, but after an hour in the open bottle, they had resolved into a smoother, gentler version of the same wine. Given that this is from Sicily, I almost LIKED the rougher version more... (3176 views)
Tasted by Tintin on 11/22/2005 & rated 92 points: Same luscious wine as last time. (3150 views)
Tasted by Mlermontov on 11/22/2005 & rated 90 points: A Tuesday in Queens: great black fruit but with excellent acidity. an interesting blend with surprising ballance and a long finish of sour cherry (is this nero coming through?) great tannins. dont know how it would age - would probably drink now-near term since its just too much fun now :) (3537 views)
Tasted by jbposell on 11/20/2005 & rated 91 points: Nice wine, esp for $15. A great blend with something brought to the party by each component. Smooth enough, but with some good earth and enough tannins to make me think this will age in the shorter term pretty nicely. I'll keep drinking them, but slowly and see how they change every 3-6 months. Great Garagiste find! (3277 views)
Tasted by Tintin on 11/11/2005 & rated 92 points: Outstanding wine. Smooth, lush, and succulent with dark silky fruit. (3137 views)
Tasted by Mlermontov on 11/1/2005: Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 35%, Petit Verdot 5% (3370 views)
