A very special wine. Decanted 4 hours. Paired well with classic spaghetti and polpette. The wine was deep garnet in color. Bursting aromatics of summer blossoms, cranberry, and strawberry jam. On the palette, loads of cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg, and caramelized sugar. Many layers to this wine. About 40 seconds on the finish. Drinking well now and will be great for another 5-10.
After the controversy over the 2010 Tenuta Nuova, I thought it was time to open a first bottle of this case bought upon release. Poured into decanter and took a few sips and then drank over dinner after about 5h decanting time. Dark ruby with first signs of bricking. The wine certainly needs some decanting given its rather closed upon pulling the cork. During the first few sips over some 90 min this shows a rather classic BdM profle with plenty of flavors and herbs, a touch dried fruit and medium tannins. Later, after around 5h in the decanter there is more dark fruit, leather and tobacco, some menthol but overall also some of the fragrance and those floral and herbal notes are muted with longer air time. A slightly bitter note on the palate throughout the evening. A very good or even excellent BdM but neither a controversial wine nor among the best BdM I have had. Perhaps still 1 or 2 points upside from here but nowhere near Suckling's 100 points. 93+
I bought a few bottles after a famous critic rated this v highly. My third time tasting this and I don't know if its psychological since this is my last bottle but it really blew me away. Decanted half for 2 hours and rest in bottle for comparison and it is a wow wine. It is in perfect drinking zone now. Don't listen to the critics, don't wait, drink this now. It has just turned, its a wine which on the one hand tastes fully mature but the finish is electric combining mature brunello with a stunning long finish. I say consume within next 3 years but don't wait, drink now.
