  • Felt like on decline, somewhat muted at first, oily, earthy, mushroom, yellow fruit. 91

  • We meant to have only a bottle of champagne, but found we needed something else, so pulled this bottle and gave it quick chill before being poured in GGG stems. Lovely and intense nose of honeysuckle, lychee and apricots, and an oil quality that you could smell, as crazy as that sounds. The palate confirmed that oily extract sensation, which ran alongside the fruit - I tend to experience that on old Austrians, a segmenting of fruit from other elements. There was also an interesting separation of intensity on the tongue, with the edges of the wine being a little dilute and the middle quite intense. Really delicious to drink, very satisfying and particular to what it was, with a nice medium body and good depth. My only complaint was that it lacked some verve, coming off a bit flat, which a recent 2001 gruner did not at all. Perhaps we didn't give it enough air, as it seemed to be picking up bounce as we were finishing it. All around a delightful wine

  • PnP. Oh dear is this ever good. It's been five years since the last one, and, as expected, it's gotten even better. SMH at the utter beauty within. All the fruit and mineral elegance I could want in this med>med+ bodied wine. No sign of decline at this time. 13,0% abv. highly recommended

  • Last of my bottles. Hasn't budged since my last in 2013 - this is absolutely amazing Riesling with the power, minerality, and finesse of Hirtzberger at its best, and still has years ahead.

  • Still at a great stage. Notes are fairly constant from the last time I had this. I love the weight time has developed in this wine. We had this along a Charmes-Chambertin and this beat it pairing almost every dish of a five course meal without a hitch. Even dessert.
