Northern-Rhone tasting (Manuelas & Markus Home): Colour: Ruby colour with brownish rims. Nose: Interesting and very complex nose with aromas of bacon fat, iron, red cherry, cold smoke alongside lovage, iodine, paprika all seasond with a big portion black pepper. Palate: A medium bodied, vibrating wine where the fruit ist still present while the tannins are completely integrated. Some oak flavors as well. Long finish.
Ruby color with a clear rim - rather youthful hue. Rabbit fur, mushroom, Syrah pepper, violet and a touch of oak spice. Gamey and wonderful. High acid pepper infused palate. Lacks some grace but excellent flavor penetration. Finish is a tad dry. Not a great La Mouline but the nose is amazing. (89)
Darkish red. Funky dark fruit with notes of bacon and earth. A very elegant nose with a lot of Rhone funk and earthiness. Very good mineral, dark fruit and mushroom flavours and a long dry fairly tannic finish.
I raid the wine store for a tasting (Store Four): Pepper and game on a surprisingly expressive nose. Medium bodied, aged but going strong. Really rocking, still perfectly balanced, with plenty of fruit and game notes, along with that black pepper. Stunning, especially considering the provenence.
