  • One of the best 09s I’ve drank in a bit. I’ve felt most to be too burly right now but with a proper decant this wine is showing incredibly well. The whole iron fist in velvet glove mantra applies well here. Spice laden throughout with dark sweet red berries with a stemmy undertone all wrapped into that velvet texture. It certainly has the stuffing to go far longer but I was surprised how accessible it was!

  • Tasted double blind. True to the terroir, this showed very powerful at first and needed some air to become better integrated, balance and more open. This is a superb wine with lots of stuffing and a perfect delineation, impaccably structured, this should become a great wine with 10 or rather 20 more years. Today, it drinks nicely but is still more about promise. 94/95 today, more potential.

TN: Intense dark berries, dark cherries, some herbal and vegetal notes. Powerful. On the palate intense, dark and more red fruit (but a bit in the background), herbs and crushed rocks, some stems and vegetal aromas. Some chocolate notes. Spices. With time more minty and cola notes add to the complexity and the wine opens up more but never fully. Superb precision from start to finish. All is very pure here. A wall of fine tannins, good freshness, satiny texture. Luxurious feel. Quite long finish.

Decanting: If you open a bottle today, I would give it at least 2-3 hours in the decanter.

  • Decanted for 30 mins before serving. Nail polish, violets, spice, and sulphur on the nose. It is initially unyielding but decanting certainly helps. Palate shows weightless power and ethereality. It is going to be something special when it is fully mature.

  • A highly perfumed nose of rose petals, root vegetables, pomegranate, dark cherry and earth. It is rich. Complex and layered, a highly perfumed yet supremely powerful wine. Delicious now, even better in another 10 years.

  • Hiles. Shimmers in the glass. Floral, very attractive nail polish aromatics. Real depth on palate, serious.
