I was hoping for more maturity to show with this wine at the age of 30, but this was still so youthful and primary. Dark, ripe, and powerful, this drinks like a much younger napa cab. Not overly heavy at 13.7% alcohol, but certainly not light or elegant either.

Drank as part of a celebration for some particularly good work news. This is a bottle we've been saving for some years for just such an occasion. Not the best of the Colgin Herb Lambs from the 90's that I've had (right now that distinction belongs to the '96), but an amazing wine in it's own right and given that it was the first vintage a very strong showing. As a previous note mentioned, it doesn't have quite the same complexity as expected. But there is this wonderful red current and maybe just a hint of the cinnamon I tend to see in later vintages. Bought at auction, but bottle clearly well stored. Cork popped right out. Delicious.

Dinner with Ann Colgin (Crown Wine Cellars, 18 Deep Water Bay Drive, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong): Bottle provided by Ann Colgin. Her first vintage.....only 275 cases made. Very purple-hued and still opaque in the core. Nose is absolutely lovely elegance and depth of blackcurrants and with a blueberry freshness......and pencil lead. Palate is wonderful...... light, refreshing acidity, cool elegance, blackberries, very feminine..... sheer elegant pleasure. Very Cabernet (it is pure Cabernet). Wonderful lightness but with huge length and thunderous resonance. So pure and fresh and linearly precise. Brilliantly made. Beautiful. Touching on 97.

Rich, complex, fragrant, and concentrated. Ruby dark purple color. Jammy fruits nicely touched by tar, licorice, and earthy scents. This is in no way an over-the-top fruit bomb. I see why old world wine drinkers would enjoy this one. At the age of 21, this still has tannins although they have become soft and integrated. This could go for at least 2 more decades.
