Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of leather, earth, pepper and black berries. Flavors of black berries, plums and black cherries. Medium acidity, resolved tannin, full bodied. Drink now.

First-rate wine, start to finish. The nose is gorgeous and compelling - dusty, with candied fruit and Christmas spice, and underneath earthy and even animalistic. Horse blanket. When first opened and decanted, it was a very strong funky animal smell - 8 hours in the decanter calmed it down and the nose was brilliant. In the mouth - a very soft feel. Spicy and fine-grained drying tannins, dusty red ripe cherry and red currant. Some black plum. A band of red sweetness and subtle vanilla. Extremely lengthy finish. It was a wow wine - until we drank the 2009 Domaine Pegau. In comparison to the Pegau it was rustic but in a good way. Easily the best Gigondas I ever had.

It seems like this bottle was probably better a few years ago. Smokey black cherry fruit up front feels a bit past prime The finish is earthy with black fruits, olive, balsamic, and tar and slightly astringent due to dry tannin. Not sure those tannins will resolve before the fruit oxidizes as there are hints of that now. Drink now - 2024, decant recommended.

Consistent with previous note. In a fabulous place. Beautiful balance and complexity. Life ahead but why wait.
