Unexpected, and of great interest. Not in my opinion a dessert wine, and really grreat w/cheese. Not at all like a Riesling, but similar in terms of sweet/acid balance.

Don't agree so much with other tasters about this one. This wine is not sweet, nor is it dessert friendly. It is very, very ripe savagnin with just a bit of residual sugar to balance out what would otherwise be absurdly high acidity. it is an excellent wine with cheese, gruyere is the current friend. It is misleading like a German Trocken with auslese ripeness. It has a sort of candied citrus peal, nut, and salt nose. The palate is medium weight and has high, high acid. Flavors fit the salt and citrus but it tastes like the pith of an orange or tangerine. I wonder if the grapes had some botrytis-effect (I'd guess yes). Finish is long. Very long. Balance outstanding. I'd want this on a cold winter's day with cheese and cheese alone. Definitely buy again.

A Night of Jura Wines (Polena - Washington, DC): this dessert wine made from savagnin grapes is goldenrod colored. the nose shows honey, pine, apricots. reminds me of a late harvest chenin blanc. the palate is an interesting blend of briny flavors and creamy, sweet fruit. it's like pickle juice and calamari dumped on top of candied peaches and apricot jam. then top it with margarita salt. seriously. what a weird/impressive wine that went very well with a variety of hard cheeses. the finish is long with a very distinct saltiness.

Very interesting wine. Had a bit of sweetness, some salinity, some nuttiness, no oxidation. Went great with some hard cheeses. Not a standard late harvest dessert wine. Would definitely recommend. Not always a fan of wines from the Jura, but this is worth seeking out.
