It is a smokey, oaky wine with a dense body (integrated but high alcohol) and velvety texture. Has gotten better over three years. Some cocoa powder and tasty notes. Fairly smooth style. Dark cherry fruit is second fiddle to the winemaking.

On opening, this was a jumble of oak and alcohol. I gave it 75 min. in the decanter and was still put off by the charred oak and cherry Robitussin elements, which didn't match the impressive bouquet. My wife sensed black olive notes on the palate, which were a turn-off for her. With an additional hour of air and some grilled burgers, things were much better. It's still not in a style I really enjoy, but at least it managed to be serviceable for the evening.

This was a nice Napa red. I'm guessing this wine will continue to improve with further age.

Big, bold cherry fruit; anise; licorice. Tart. Lots of oak on the nose. This is a BOLD wine.
