  • Burnt autumn orange with leaf brown and violet hints. The nose is full of toasted oak, butterscotch, sweet orange blossom honey, and smoke, and to a lesser extent, melon, star fruit, and floral notes. There is a pungency that, combined with the primarily oak elements, give this wine a very bourbon-like feel.

Medium to full-bodied, there is a bit of a syrupy feel that is pretty well balanced by the acidity. Having said that, the finish is still slightly cloying, but less so than many other dessert wines. Candied apple, honeydew melon, vanilla, and just a little cinnamon and other mulling spices. I'm not at all disappointed, especially since I bought the bottle at 67% off the original price.

  • Amazing, but not in a good way. The flavor is a dead ringer for the artificial orange flavor of Kool-Aid orange drink or Triaminic cough syrup. While the wine is pleasant enough, I can't really admire a wine that tastes like something artificial.

  • The color lives up to the label -- orange & gold. Nose -- slightly sweet and slightly acidic. Initial taste -- rind of orange and lemon -- thus a slight bitter after taste. Texture -- light syrup. Very clear -- no sediment. Sugar lingers on the teeth. Very nice -- a little hot on the alcohol. Pretty good for a mass produced consumer product. No evidence of love or skill, except that it's representative of a competent "B" student. Does not seem built to last -- drink now. All in all, pretty good, but not great.

  • When asked, my 7-year old daughter said it smelled like "chocolate."

I thought it tasted like sweet apples. A complex, sweet wine with a hint of apricot and pineapple. Rich finish on the tongue -- silky. Enjoyed at the end of a 2-day circumnavigation of the San Juan islands in 95 degree heat, following local seafood. Paired wonderfully with chocolate chip cookies.

"It smells like sweet peaches. It looks like light gold." -- the observations of my 7-year old daughter, who, of course, was not allowed to sample any.
