Decanted for 6 hrs, lovely on the nose, fruit and earthy notes well mixed, seductive. The body is satin like smooth, so many flavors and all of them harmonious and perfectly balanced. The wine is approachable with some decanting and very impressive.
This was real Good. Classy and elegant. Great fruit (blue and black) medium plus acidity and finish and the tannins are seamless at this early age. Drank over three nights and this held up well. Aussie Shiraz done right. Look forward to the rest of my bottles.
Syrah vs. Shiraz (Cellier Wine Shop, Athens, Greece): Unmistakeably Barossa shiraz of top quality. Pronounced eucalypt, camphor, blueberry, godiva mint chocolate and florality. Full-bodied, dense with explosive fruit, yet perfectly balanced. Firm but fine-grained tannins of textbook quality and a very long aftertaste. Still quite youthful but absolutely enjoyable. My WOTN.
Penfolds Tasting (DEPs): A ruby-purple wine with a nose of mint/eucalyptus, licorice, and black fruits. Velvety in the mouth, with serious depth, and lots of blackberry. Very nice balance with plenty of structure. The finish has good length and lots of blackberry and some cedar. Definitely my favorite of the 5 Penfolds wines presented this evening.
