We are doing a vertical tasting of 2005 - 2006 - 2007 and on the nose this was actually the favorite. On the palette this is also great - we get a very well integrated acidity - that gives this wine so much balance. There is fruit is cherries and red currant. We also got some animal taste boot on the nose and the palette. We are ending at 94, because everything just went together.

Dusty, powdery, limestone and chalky nose. Lots of oak, Coconut, Tea leaves, cherries and dark berries, bittersweet aftertaste, preserved raspberries and red currant candy.

Sesti / Costanti Brunello Vertical (Alex's place): Disappointing. This was objectively a wine with a lot going on, but it was just so overworked at the moment that it was outperform by its non-Riserva brethren by quite a distance. It was certainly a real shift in gear from the two more tradtional BdM riservas on the same flight. This had lots of milk chocolatey oak notes on the nose alongside ripe black fruit and a whiff of violets. The palate was rather too oaky too, coming across with lots of coconut shavings and vanilla flavours. There were plush tannins, juicy acidity and pure, clear, rather sweet fruit in a superbly long finish, but it just came across as a bit too worked at the moment. Solid raw material, but this needs years and years yet. Not that great at the moment. May be better in 10 years.

Sweet oak, ripe red currants and berries. Sweet fruits. A bit American
