Bought three bottles of this wine following the note by Jeb Dunnuck for The Wine Advocate. I did not find any of the excellences in such tasting note. I did not find any "additional richness" nor a wine that "boasts rocking cassis", wine is not "full bodied" or "gorgeously pure" and that "core of sweet fruit" is masked by a ton of ordinary oak. I was not totallly thrilled as Mr. Dunnuck pointed.
Either he tasted a different wine altogether or we have very different palates, because this is my second bottle and I found it diluted, overoaked and basically underwined.
Too many wines for a Wednesday (Kevin's house): A 3 hour decant. This had a perfumed nose and lots of black pepper. It initially seems lean, then on the mid-palate and finish it becomes more full-bodied. Some oak is evident, not excessive or unwelcome. This was a little bigger than I was expecting, but I enjoyed it.
A Big Wine Wednesday Afternoon (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Very dark red color. Decanted for 3 hours; drank 2 glasses over 90 minutes. The nose has dark fruits, some roasted meat, white pepper, fruit. The palate has a full body, cassis, dark brambly berries, savory, raspberry, assertive tannins and pepper on a medium plus finish. Very good, showing fantastic with a nice decant.
