(Mostly) Gigondas (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Big, fruity nose, kirsch and a touch of heat. Full bodied with low to medium acidity. Ripe berry fruit and lots of rustic, drying tannins. Needs time or a decant.

Pleasant old world wine. Some fruit with the nose and on the palate, but mainly register the acids and tannins. Would be good with foods with decent fats and unami, but wouldn't, at least at this time, be able to stand up to foods with strong onion or garlic. No funky notes or tastes to this wine, so somewhat accessible to my "new world" palate - but not a wine that I would drink without cheese. Drinkable now -but definitely has enough tannins that it may improve with a year or more of aging.
