It was the night of Pinot. This followed the 2003 Martinelli Pinot Noir Zio Tony Ranch -- it was a tough act to follow. Nonetheless, this was quite f&8(%#$ nice. Nice green, grassy nose with hints of dry grass and cassis/cinnamon. The color is extremely light -- almost see-through and garnet-brown in color. On the palate, this is nice and silky, silky smooth. It is the night of silky smooth. While this has the silky magic that makes a great pinot noir, it lacks the fruity chalky depth of the earlier Martinelli Pinot Noir Zio Tony Ranch. It is still damn fine, considering it is vastly superior to most pinot noirs, but after following the 2003 Martinelli Pino Noir Zio Tony Ranch, it seems just excellent, but not lifetime achievement award great. Too bad. On an any other night, it would score much higher based on the silky wonderful texture which leaves the tongue feeling like a vacation in an ancient silk factory. This has the perfect silk smoothness, but not the rich depth or finish of the 2003 Martinelli Zio Tony Ranch. There is a great silky texture here, with some nice fruit -- it is, however, less complex than the 2003 Martinelli Pino Zio Tony Ranch which proceeded this bottle. Sorry, but we were spoiled first by the Martinelli. Still, I cannot complain.

Silky, yes but a little thin. Not bad at all for the price.
