Wow bright red fruit, vr spice and stems. Ripe red fruit with lots of acidity which was surprising for the vintage. Very nice. One of the best 03 I had.

Christmas eve dinner at La Taperia. This was a tough one to call, I felt it was very mildly heated. (or maybe it was just the vintage characteristic showing strongly?). Deep red, rather reductive on the nose with sour plums, cranberries, sour cherries and scorched earth. Very ripe, but not with the richness and opulence, but rather a more roasted character. Palate certainly was showing fine, with ripe red fruit, earth, forest floor, tomato and burnt meat. Certainly not a typical Engel, none of that exotic spice, wildness and terroir, and while certainly drinkable, probably not the most representative bottle.

P&P, eye: ruby, clear, translucent, 2mm fading. nose: sous bois (wood is not subtle), red berries (even a note of cassis, which is a bit unusual, obviously not in 2003), raw meat, cloves, pleasant, but 2-dimensional. palate: medium body, very well balanced, tannins finely grained, not overdone for a 2003, 14 Caudalie, stable. this wine is enjoyable (and ready to drink) but misses finesse and complexity given its price and classification. It's not a vintage thing, I'm not a fan of 2003, but some producers managed to get decent wines at least matching the classification. this here is village quality.

Powerful nose of crushed dark red berries, clove, and cinnamon notes. Medium to medium plus bodied with ripe fruit on the palate. Powerful brown spice throughout. Great length with nice grip. Fantastic wine; wish I had more of these.
