  • This wine is at peak !!
The cork was perfect after over a decade in the bottle and easily removed. This is a balanced Pinot Noir that I consumed over two days. Deep ruby color with no oxidation, clarity medium. Aromas of pomegranate and rose hips, flavors of red fruit compote, rhubarb, and marine soil with a pleasant medium finish. Popped and poured, this wine really benefited from gentle oxygen since it was much more soft and integrated after an hour and even better the next day. Great fruit with firm acidity made into a very balanced Pinot Noir from the Seasmoke Vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills appellation of Santa Barbara County by the cool Pacific Ocean along the San Ynez River canyon. Great winemaking makes this Pinot Noir an age worthy wine and may have more years of life left. Unfortunately, this was the last bottle of this vintage remaining in my cellar.

  • Had my last bottle of this in 2013 and wasn't impressed. Somehow this bottle was much better (and better than some older Southings and TENs I have had in the last couple years). Certainly not burgundy, but not over the top Cali pinot either. A nice balance of red and dark fruit, some savory notes, and enough acid to keep it interesting.

  • Miss this Sea Smoke bottling, 2009 is drinking beautifully. A bit cloudy but nice color, no bricking. Nose bloomed in the glass with ripe plum, dark cherry, dried herbs. Flavors followed the nose. Very smooth, perfectly balanced, paired with grilled lamb, rice pilaf and green beans almandine. Drank over 3 hours and it never faded.

  • Been hoarding these Botella bottles since it is no longer available. Not going to improve with further age. Dark purple color, muted nose of forest floor, mushrooms and ripe plum. Decanted for about a half hour, silky mouthfeel, flavors of dark cherry, ripe plum. Very nice.

  • Drank this after a WS Pinot. This has more concentrated fruit, but harsher tannins that could use a little more time in the cellar. Nice, though.
