Tight cork with no seepage at all has kept this wine pretty fresh. Drinks younger than a 2007. It's also smoother and lighter than expected for a Carneros Syrah. Especially when this was opened immediately following a meatier, spicier Syrah from the same vintage by R. Merlo Family Vineyards. This is a nice wine in its own right, surprised that this was apparently the last vintage of Syrah produced by Schug who are of course much better known for Pinot Noir.

A little hot even after 30 minutes of air. Ripe red fruit nose with some leather. Not hot at all to taste. Red fruit, pepper, leather with medium finish. Fast legs. Smooth light texture, not especially complex but pleasant with thanksgiving turkey. Pretty average.
