1965 BEAULIEU VINEYARD “BEAUMONT” NAPA VALLEY PINOT NOIR- I`m assuming this was made by the iconic Andre` Tchelistcheff as he did not retire until 1973; this bottle was almost maple in color, had a considerable amount of earthiness along with tertiary flavors of dried prunes and figs.

Opened by LostVerse again. This time for his wife's 50th birthday dinner. An all around better bottle than the first bottle opened 11 months ago. Clearer pale ruby color. No off aromas. Still thin on the palate but it had some decent red fruit notes. 79 points.

Second of two bottles. Opened at Anvil for Shari's birthday. While the first bottle opened last January was undrinkable, this was much better. I wouldn't give it a second sniff if it wasn't a birth-year bottle, but compared with the first bottle, this one was much better. There was a definite oxidative note to this, but there was a smidge of fruit left in there. I actually finished my glass and poured a tiny bit of a second glass. A treat to experience.

Opened by LostVerse at his 50th birthday dinner. This was a treat even though the wine did not show very well. A very thin pale red color. The nose was not pleasant. Some menthol with a distinct moldiness to it. The palate was better with notes of leather, forest floor and a saltiness. Couldn't finish my glass but always find it interesting to try something this old. 67 points.

Opened at Anvil for birthday dinner. Allred's note pretty well sums this up. We knew going in that this may have been undrinkable. I wouldn't go quite that far, but I wouldn't go back to the bottle for more either. This was all about having a birth-year wine to open for the occasion. In that regard, it didn't disappoint, and was lovely in my mind. I will say it tasted better than it smelled. I do have one bottle left that will be opened for wife's birthday in December. No score, but to me it would be the equivalent to a price tag of priceless.
