  • Cherry, tar, and sous bois. Good fruit and intensity. Plenty of deposit - so decant!

  • In January 2009, I panned this wine as modern and oaky. Almost six years later, another bottle from my cellar is not quite as bad. This is still plenty big, dark, brawny, dense and chewy on the palate. This is clearly a modern, masculine, large-scale wine, even while it is not showing the obvious chocolate and vanilla notes of six years ago. Dark cherry and menthol palate now. The oak has softened, integrated somewhat, but this is still clearly modern and oaky. Enjoyable, once one submits to the style. Smooth tannins then give way to crumbly, gravely texture of tannin breaking down. While the cherry-menthol palate is dark and deep, I sense the fruit weakening somewhat. The foundation of tannin and oak still remain, but I suspect that in the center a hole is forming, where the fruit is weakening. Not much improvement overnight, the tannins now showing coarse and grainy like sand. There is considerable sediment in the bottle. I would not buy this again.

  • Flawed. Smelled cork, fruit still there though.

  • I opened this on Friday and it was so oaky and modern that I put the cork back in and hoped the oakiness might die down overnight. Not so. Saturday, Deb and I drank it while preparing dinner in New City. The oak is really dominant here, with oak attributes of vanilla and chocolate along with cherry liquer; inky. Not what I look for in Barolo and I would not buy this producer's Barolo again.

  • Very good, but will definitely improve in 2-3 years.
