I get a pruny note on the nose, I guess similar to what Winchester-XI described in his note from 2019. But fairly lively on the palate, with ripe cherry fruit and decent acidity - persists nicely through the finish. Likable enough, if less than stellar due to the nose. My last bottle.

So, first the bad news. There is a pruny or even raisiny note on this wine. It was there on the first of my bottles, drunk about 8 years ago, and it’s there on this one (my last). It’s apparent on both the nose and the palate, and it’s simply unignorable.
The good news: there is also a lot of other, more appealing, stuff going on. The fruit, unsurprisingly, leans towards dark plums, but there is also some very nice spice (cinnamon) and some licorice, as well as an interesting eucalyptus or mint note. The wine spreads out nicely across the palate, with a good mouthfeel (tannins resolved) and a long finish. Most importantly, there is good acid and an overall feeling of vibrancy, despite the vintage characteristics.
The key to enjoying this wine is to pair it with the right food, and the recipe for that is simple: mushrooms, mushrooms, mushrooms. Any dish that foregrounds the funghi—sautéed, roasted, or whatever—should be enjoyable with it.
If I had more of this I’d drink it now, in order to reclaim the cellar slots. That said, if I found it in a bargain bin, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a bottle or two, knowing that it’s highly enjoyable with appropriate eats.

2000 drinking like a 2010. And could go for much, much, much longer. Strong minerally nose and meaty, chewy, textural tannins. @ Rezdôra
