At nearly 7 years old, this is ready to drink. It is varietally correct with nose and taste of the strong dark red fruit & bramble, visually it is dark, but not as dark as Italian versions. It was quite good, but just short of outstanding. It did not have the "earthy" taste we so love in Italian-grown varietals like Sangiovese and Nebiollo. When we tried this 2 years ago, it more closely resembled that. We paid about $28 for this and we just think for that price you can get a great Italian wine that would be as good, if not better.

Deceivingly slightly lighter, non-inky appearance---Sangiovese is usually a little inky. Full-on fruit and earthy nose. Heady taste of fruit (cherries, earthy, woody, touch of mocha). Slightly better than medium finish, touch of tannins remain. Let breathe 30 minutes for best results, we did not decant and were glad we did not. This is definitely a DRINK NOW, it is drinking quite nicely. Really nice domestic/Cali/Sierra Foothills 100% Sangiovese.
