Deep, thick purple, with a clear rim showing little sign of age. Nose is intense, with black cherry, blueberry, blackberry, mint, pipe tobacco, and hints of game and spice. Subtle but complex integration of the aromas. Full bodied on the palate. Acid is med +, tannins are a little weak perhaps for this big of a wine. Black cherry, mocha and spice on the finish, which is long. Over delivers for the price.
this wine needs time to come together. I opened it and poured and it was all over the place, with bright fruit, uneven finish and a sharp close, so I corked it without gas and came back to it two or three days later - and what a difference. Round fruit forward and soft tannins, no real backbone or spices. But a nice drink that can't compare with the best of the Santa Barbara syrahs (eg Tensley) but enjoyable. Recommend cellaring for a year ot two more.
Full-out syrah. Mountains of black fruits: blackberry, black currant, black cherry, and other bramble fruits, as well as a dose of chocolate. Good bit of spice. Medium tannins. Almost syrupy-mouthfeel. Their motto must be "go big or go home".
