  • Cork got stuck on the side and crumbed half out and half in the bottle. Decanted 4 hours and could have used more time. Has an explosive fully developed nose but palate was uncorunately astringent. Cherry liqueur, aged leather, tobacco, tar, and baked raspberry. dry butter tannins on the finish.

  • This wine was awkward on the first day even with a 2 hour breathing and over a 2 hour dinner. Nice flavor but no finish. We saved half of the bottle for the next day and it developed very nicely. Very rich broad sexy fruit with tar and liquorish and a long complex lingering finish. This wine was gaining in complexity as we finished it. Awesome with lamb. Wait a few years before opening our next bottle.

  • Dinner with the family at WD-50 (WD-50, NYC): My Dad's bottle. Dark nose of tar, blackberry, dark cherry, some coffee or mocha notes. This needs serious time. The palate is polished with lots of dark cherry, tar and coffee - smooth refined tannins, good acidity - this is quite wound. This will probably be a very nice wine, but I prefer the Produttori wines, and then when you factor in the price differential, it's no contest. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5+/6, Finish - 4.5+/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1+/2 = 15+/20 (probably 16.5/20 potential.)

  • Drank at Spadaros with DeCiccos. I was concerned re the bottle age but, other than the cork disintegrating in the bottle upon opening, a wonderful bottle. Pinkish/red color showing a bit of bricking. Fairly generous nose of earth & berries. Decent level of fruit--blackberries, blueberries mostly--but has faded a bit over the years leaving the wines other elements to move to the fore. Earth, leather, tar, forest floor and wonderful spices on the back end. Soft tannins mostly resolved, nice long finish. A great barbaresco and a real crowd pleaser this night.
