Decanted for 3 1/2 hours. Deep purple with crimson on the edge showing its age a bit. The nose is HUGE. Black fruit compote, stewed plums, prunes, baking spices make for an olfactory delight. Fast forming legs give way to a palate of red and blackberry preserves, spice cake, and a smooth yet a lightly spicy finish. A beautiful wine , however not a crowd pleaser at TG dinner. A lovely Biale zin in my book.

(Robert Biale Vineyards Zinfandel Varozza Vineyard, Napa Valley) From a vineyard in the St. Helena AVA, farmed by the Varozza family since 1913, but planted to a unique, thicker-skinned clone than is found in Old Crane and Old Kraft, this Zin displays less cherry and more raspberry, hinting at black chocolate, along with denser tannins—the pretty, lush fruit falling off sturdy shoulders. Much better than a previous bottle. Still full and high alcohol but everything else balances much more than a few years ago.
