Followed for 3 days. This is a lovely, understated Chardonnay at present, seemingly holding a lot in reserve. There is a whiff of pear and lots of lemon, with terrific brightness and no apparent oak. At times, the acidity was a little shrill and much of the fruit was in hiding, but there is excellent depth here and I think this just needs time. It was best on day 3. Old World stylings. My score will go higher if this comes out to play.
Golden color. Nose: lemon/lime curd, white peach, pineapple core, white cherry, and Asian pear with accents of vanilla wafer, brined green olive, nutmeg, cinnamon, orange blossom, cardamon, and dill. Full body on the palate: lemon/lime curd, white cherry, white peach, and baked green apple framed by allspice, vanilla wafer, green olive, cardamon, mace, orange zest, and briny ocean-spray minerality. Medium+ acidity. Lingering white cherry skin, green apple skin, cardamon, allspice, and ocean-spray on the long finish. Complex, vivid, unique, finely detailed, and flawlessly balanced. Pair with a wide range of grilled/baked/sauteed seafood, steamed dungeness or king crab, a diverse cheese board, seared foie gras, or bouillabaisse. Drink over the next 6-7 years.
This is seriously amazing chardonnay. not giving much on day one, but boy day two, three and four show that this is built like a cathedral. acidity is perfect, little dried character reminding us of the cali sun (never been there). This is a relative bargain.
