The previous bottle we had, two years ago, was explosively great. This bottle, opened with accordingly high expectations, was a letdown. We would certainly have enjoyed it more if we had come to it without the lofty hopes, but it seemed more closed, more tannic, less advanced (though the small amount that remained on the second day had softened and sweetened, which does suggest that more time would have helped this specific bottle).

Elegant nose of heart cherries and blueberries. Balsamic notes, very complex, infinitely soft, warm and delicate on the palate with polished tannins. Very elegant and filigree.

Best wine we've had all year. The bottle had less sediment than expected, dark brownish-red color and an explosive fragrance of leather and tar. Upon first opening, the wine was strongly acidic, lean and not altogether convincing. After two hours in the decanter, the acidity had mellowed, and the tannins provided structure without interfering with the pleasure. A deep nose of leather, dark fruits, and chocolate, with some honey on the palate and pepper in the aftertaste. Must be at peak now, probably good for another five years or so.

Deep red color. Complex nose full of woods undergrowth. Very persistent on the palate, rich and powerful flavour with mature red fruits, papaya, leather. Big and intense in the mouth, a real bomb, super persistent. Outstanding tannis beautifully integrated and smooth, velvet like. All 2008 Barbaresco I tried have been special, not sure whether the vintage is particularly good or I'm just lucky when I choose a 2008 bottle. Tasting this wine has been a great experience, especially for the beauty of the integration between bouquet and persistence giving an overall feeling of completeness and richness of the aroma, expressed in that fascinating papaya like note that brings together sour and sweet and enhances it, giving the palate a great time.

Not going to get better.
Leather, tobacco, cherry and hint of wintergreen on the nose.
