very pretty mature chianti. Cork starting to fail but wine was good, orangey brown around the edges but wine in balance and better with time as it opened up. Not a perfect pairing with basil pesto but hung in there well...very nice
Opened the bottle 2+ hours before drinking. This wine seemed hot.
Retried this wine after the bottle had been opened for 24 hours. The nose had notes of dusty leather, as well as tobacco. It had some lighter oak notes, cherries, and an herbaceous qualities as well. It was much softer, a bit more polished the second night.
Overall we enjoyed this wine more on the second night.
Opened one soon after I acquired it, so the travel and sediment may have had a negative impact. This bottle seemed a few years past peak, but eminently drinkable. Lots of truffle, mushroom and wet leather, scant dark fruit in the background. Lacking a little freshness. I'll open another and revisit when it settles and gets over any travel shock.
