This was number one in a blind tasting over dinner with 2009 Tercero, 2011 Alto Moncayo and 2006 Clarendon Kangarilla. The Tercero, served first was a little tight and not that giving after two hours open in the bottle, even though it was ok. Next came the Groundwork which got praise from around a table of ten. Nice round, generous flavors with not a negative note at all. Tannins resolved, just lovely. The group was not as interested in the deeper but admittedly jammier styles in the Alto Moncayo, one of my favorite wines but a little young, and the 2006 Kangarilla which was the jammiest of the bunch. It was not a jammy crowd so although I liked them both, others did not and kept asking for more Groundwork.

Plum, pomegranate and licorice. Smooth and fruit forward. Very enjoyable.

Red fruit, medium body and finish, pleasant, a little alcohol in the finish

I usually am not a fan of jammy wines but this was fun to drink and went well with a smoky split pea soup. Really nice effort for the money.
