2009 Les Halos de Jupiter Chateauneuf du Pape. Perfectly mature - teal colour on the rim. Philippe Cambie's Les Halos de Jupiter series are modern wines but with a great respect for the terroir. This is the first I try with this much age and IT is really in a good spot now and I don't think it will evolve much further as it is still somewhat fruit driven. Really appealing and delightful (and deceptively easy to drink) - not a traditional CNdP but a great bottle of wine nonetheless.

I would suspect a fairly high content of Grenache and good amount of Mouvedre in this CdP, with signature anise and cranberry compote notes on the nose. There's quite a bit going on here - fruit and terrior on the nose, which is very pleasant. The nose also has nice baking spices, cocoa and a slight hint of forest floor. A 91 is a very good score and I might have gone higher if I hadn't detected alcohol on the nose. At 14.5% alcohol it's bold.
On the palate this wine is showing very good structure with medium acidity and medium plus tannins. I picked up more cranberry compote on the palate along with ripe cherry, casis, dried herbs and earth notes. The finish was not lingering, but I liked the texture, which coated well. The star of this show is the nose, which outshines the sensation on the palate. I suspect this will be a different wine tomorrow as it opens to O2.

Medium bodied, elegant, soft style of Chateauneuf du Pape that is filled with fresh, ripe, sweet, cherries, kirsch, thyme and earthy notes. This is already drinking well.

Pruny and cooked - this is basicly gone - don't think, this was an off bottle, this is the wine, I'm afraid.
