  • I hate to say it, but for whatever reason, I don't remember this wine or didn't take notes. Sad for me...

  • Eyes Wide Shut - Day 2 (A quiet place): Nose: Fresh red fruits, dried stones, and a spiced and prickly forest floor.

Palate: Similar on the plate, completely different than the 09. Crazy how much younger this seems. Fresh red fruits and fresh minerals. Clean minerals and the fresh fruits linger on the finish. Nicely fruited steeped tea on the the finish as well.

Preferred the fresh youthfulness of this over the '09. Did not drink like there was only a year's difference in age, but more like 8-10 years of difference. The '09 was an old soul, this '10 is a young soul.

  • Tasted over two days, alongside the same vintage Léoville Barton and Fattoria Galardi Terra di Lavoro.

Loud perfume, even somewhat flamboyant, of red, blue, and purple berries, liqueurs, and pipe tobacco, with oak-imparted top notes, backed by clay and mineral elements. Alcohol comes through too. Overall, quite modern, and although unmistakably Right Bank Bordeaux, shading heavily to the (Californiaesque) Saint-Émilion style.

More of the same on the palate. Bold, strapping, and (relatively) balanced, in that modern Saint-Émilion way (no bellringer). Much attention did not bring out noteworthy precision or nuance. Oak and alcohol showed excessively.

No improvement on the second day, perhaps even a backward step. The score represents acknowledgment of the modern style. If scoring for enjoyment, 92-93 points.

I do not know where this will go, but my best guess is: 'Nowhere of note'. I would not be surprised if it throws a lot of sediment over the next several years and looses its modest Bordeaux appeal. Holding bottles beyond 2030 seems risky. Bested on both days by the other two wines.
