A bit heavy on the black pepper and smoke, but this would be good foil for grilled/fatty meats (ribeye, bbq ribs).
Alcohol is well under control, allowing the fruit and structure to duke it out on their own. The structure wins out right now and seems like it will keep winning over time, but it still has decent fruit.
Give it a few hour decant. Probably best enjoyed between 2016-2020.
1 1/2 hour decant (mag decanter). Nose: Black fruits with really up front minerality. Slate mineral. Great nose. Palate: Good tannins and acid at 5 1/2 years with the black fruits and medium length finish. Last bottle and it's drinking great.
