I've been an advocate of Verdejo as a serious alternative to Sauvignon Blanc for many years. But I also think it's a great variety in its own right, and doesn't need comparisons with the other variety, which benefits from worldwide recognition and aggressive marketing. This modest wine is clear proof of Verdejo's indigenous character and qualities that go beyond the stereotypical "grassy", "zingy", "grapefruity", "gooseberry" comments. Verdejo is capable of significant complexity and subtlety, not just that uplifting freshness and bright acidity. Ossian make ridiculously sophisticated wines, and this entry-level Verdejo is a great example of that. It does much more than freshness and brightness - it has a nutty, floral, perfumed depth on the nose that is quite beguiling and subtle, and leads to a clean, crisp palate revealing notes of almonds, white fruits, herbs and a beautiful minerality on the finish. A splendid little wine which will confound many tasters unfamiliar with whites from Spain.

Pale yellow. Highly aromatic, remiscient of Sauvignon Blanc. However also notes og tropical fruit, and hint of peach.
On the palate an oily mouthfeel, the herbal aromas supported by lemon and peach. Not as crisp as Sauvignon Blancs tends to be.
