  • Popped & poured last nite with leftover Italian. Haven't had this in quite some time, but was surprisingly well-preserved. Actually, the wine showed similarly to my last notes several years ago. Fading ruby color with some bricking. Nose had aromas of earth, mushrooms, & leather. Same on the palate, but there remains lingering red fruit up front and mid-palate. The wine has a definite rustic quality, with lots of shroomy, earthy, foresty stuff going on, which is to be expected. Decent length. Well-preserved and enjoyable.

  • Drank at Bender cocktail party. Second time I've had this wine recently, and this tasting very much the same as the last. Pretty ruby color, some slight bricking. Nose of earth and leather. Wine is in great shape, subtle red fruit, tar, leather & earth. A nice rustic, mineral quality to this wine. Very enjoyable, and a fine example of a quality aged CC. I have only 1 left, unfortunately.

  • Drank at Gisondis for Halloween, along with a 1997 Fontodi CC, in preparation for a WWS sangiovese tasting next week. The Riecine was in far better condition: Darkish garnet color, with slight growing at the edges--though not nearly as much as I had expected. Still excellent fruit--primarily ripe cherries. Nice earthy quality, some leather & coffee notes too. Overall, a very nice with good complexity--a wonderfully mature CC that far exceeded my expectations.
The Fontodi was the 2nd bottle of this wine that I've had recently, and this one was better than the last. Much paler, pinkish color than the Riecine, more flowery scents on the nose though. This wine likely peaked awhile back, but still has decent fruit levels, some minerality and leather evidence. Not particularly long or complex, slight bitterness at the back end. Overall, though, a pleasant CC and also better than I had expected.
