  • spectacular showing tonight. the wine was open for business right away (no need to slow ox as mentioned in the other tasting notes). nose was boasting black truffle, ripe bell pepper, tobacco, dark fruit... the palate is deep, smooth tannins, long, great balance. a great example of California cabs of the 70's, 80s when they tasted like Bordeaux with a "sexy" twist.

  • Was low 90s for many hours. Was pushing 94 after 6+ hours in a decanter .

  • Tasted blind, this wine had a red/purple center with orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose showed cherries, rhubarb, red dust, and a hint of molasses. There we also some green notes from time to time.

In the mouth, this was refined and yet was also rich and ripe. It was beautifully integrated with lovely balance and very good length.

This was excellent wine-making on display. It will easily last 10 years. It is unclear if this wine might get better. If the green element in the nose gets darker, my score could go higher.

  • This was an awesome wine opened to celebrate my birthday from a well stored Magnum. Opened and slow ox'd for 2-3 hours taking a small pour. Cork broke in half on open... happens a lot on my vintage Mags. First sip was little tight but nice fruit with hint of graphite on the nose. After first hour was opening nicely with dark cherry fruit some cocoa and blackberry a deep cherry color with just a very slight amber rim. Double decanted for travel. Dinner was at J. Gilberts Steakhouse with a dry aged prime filet for a perfect pairing. Continued to evolve and get better over the next 3-4 hours. Capped about third of bottle for following day. Faded a bit but still solid. Think I'd drink up a 750ml bottle soon as the magnum was seeming to fade just slightly and tannins seemed completely resolved. I love birthday wines LOL

  • From an excellent looking magnum, this wine had a very deep red center and just a hint of orange at the rim. The medium intensity nose got better and better as the wine aired. After 4 hours it offered up black cherries, anise, blackberries, soil, and a hint of sandalwood.

In the mouth, this wine was rounded but showed substantial body. It had light tannin, firm acidity, and good length. It had a nice fruity impression and impressive balance. However, in order to move into elite territory, it would have needed more complexity.

This wine was gorgeously made. While I originally thought this tasted a bit young, it did not improve much after about 4 hours of air. Thus, I would be inclined to drink this wine over the next 5-10 years.
