Simple Hedonisms Rosé Panel; 5/1/2012-8/5/2012: I am not am expert on Bordeaux, the region and varietals not being my fave, but a Clairet it appears is not really a rose' - although damn close. Other than being a darker red, which logically one would assume means longer skin contact after crushing, its not clear to me if anything else is truly different, or what would, vinfiication wise, seperate them. Nonetheless, since I am not doing a 'clairet panel, it will go into the Rose' one .:)
In many ways a hybrid of rose' and red wine, and perhaps closer to a light red, there is indeed a distinction from Rose'. (Is saignee allowed..?)
This Clairet is 100% Cab Franc, which gives some unique character. 13% alc
To The Eye: A light, clear red, with ruby tinge. On The Nose: Expressive red fruit, black cherry, plum, In The Mouth: Black Raspberry, spice, the most subtle hint of green pepper. It has a pleasant front, mid palate, and finish. Always approachable and enjoyable.
This would pair very well with BBQ, marrying the fruit and acid, with smoked meat and sauce.
