Light burgundy color. Exudes fragrances of African violets, brown sugar, earth and cherry bowl. Polished, silky, round and seemless entry. Classic M-G. Intense, pure flavors of dark cherry with flecks of iron. Modestly promoted to 1er juice the next year. This over delivers. The vine age maybe shows on the finish, but make no mistake, the pedigree shows. Beautiful. 93
Pale/medium ruby core, medium pale garnet rim. Beautifully ripe, perfumed bilberry and black cherry fruit, floral notes, youthful still although does show some spice and a touch of game with time in glass. Medium bodied, very fine, soft tannins, black cherry, bilberry, florals, balanced acidity carrying a very good length and quite expansive slightly gamey finish. Excellent, beautiful wine.
Lovely black cherry earthy Gevrey nose followed by silky but rich restrained dark red pinot fruit. Wide midpalate, long finish with ripe and resolving tannins. Terroir-driven, elegant, sensational quality. So drinkable, fantastic juice. Drinking very well now.
Have wanted to compare this with the V-R for some time now; did so tonight. The V-R wins on hedonistics today, but I can see where the G-C is going and think its probably the winner in the long-term. On 1st pour decided to double-decant this (vs. V-R which we determined was not needed). Spicy (and nice) nose on top of the medium red color. Nice mouthfeel. Great wine overall and one to revisit in late '12 IMHO.
