The Gagey cuvee. Rich and complex with ripe black fruit, meaty spice, and a good dollop of cooked mushroom. Layered, complex, and intriguing, but probably a few years past its absolute best.

No formal notes. This showed well, but a step behind the Clos de Beze next to it. Generally more restrained and a bit lighter with less depth. Still a great bottle of wine!

Jadot 1997 Dinner: A Jacques Lardière Miracle (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Open 3 hours before serving blind to the group. Depending on the vintage, there might be up to three different Jadot Clos St Denis cuvees. This is the Domaine Gagey bottling, which as always been my favorite in almost every vintage. Rich combination of black berry and cherry with spice hints and exceptional balance and power. This kept unfolding over an hour in glass.

Second La Paulee Warmup Dinner (Ai Fiori - New York NY): Very rich, this shows a lot of black and red berry aromas and flavors that retain freshness and energy despite the vintage. Good density and structure really help here. Another consistently good Jadot 1997.

Thanksgiving Wines (Chapel Hill, NC): Drinking really well right now; palate is very lithe and elegant, packed with red and dark fruits, forest floor and baking spices; this continued to improve after several hours of air
