Bottle in impeccable condition after nearly 40 years. Not estate fruit and consequently doesn’t live up to other aged SLWC, but still quite tasty. Tertiary aromas dominate the nose with prominent forest floor, wet leaves, and a hint of VA that blew off eventually. Upon opening the palate exhibits dried cranberries and raspberries — but with air the fruits turn darker and more concentrated with plum and blackberry flavors coming into play. Cigar box, cedar and a some spiciness. Tannins fully resolved except for an ever so slight grippy feeling on the finish. Slight astringent aftertaste does disappear with an hour decanting.

Have to say that this was brilliant. Fruit was subtle but still lively, definitely more of that secondary Stag's Leap character coming through, had some connection to similarly aged left-bank bdx... so sad not to have another bottle.

Some cherry and tobacco but a nasty acetic streak. Old bones - not good.
