Past its prime. Still a pristine cork. Very closed initially. Red to brown color with an orange hue on the rim. Dried cherry, licorice flavors and aroma. Thin body and a short, slight metallic finish. Probably would have been showing very well 10 years ago.

Some sediment - decanted carefully. Loads of rim variation, including a brick core surrounded by an orange rim. Intense dried cherry and oregano notes. Some licorice. Quite vibrant still, but fairly receded fruit. Perfect with spicy pizza. Great tannins and acid remain. Would have been more showy in its youth, but lasted quite well.

Just openend this lovely bottle after cherishing this moment for many many years... well worth the wait!!! Wish we would have bought more :<( Cork was well seated, but made a rookie mistake of not putting corkscrew all the way in... broke in place but was able to recover. Bouquet opened with great satisfaction as the evening went on... enriched taste increased with each sip.
From Wine.Com: On the nose Riserva Ducale immediately shows an outstanding elegance, characterized by particularly fragrant flowery and fruity notes. Violet, cherries, wild berries and plums meet with delicately spicy hints of tobacco and white pepper grains, followed by elegant scents of red roses and flint.
On the palate it is consistent with the nose. Sensations of fragrant fresh fruit are accompanied by steady yet gentle tannins that exalt enjoyable spicy hints. The entire tasting sensation is enriched by a persistent finish, which is incredibly fresh and pleasantly mineral and presents lingering notes of rosemary.
